Topanga
was a part of Mexico until 1848, the end of the Mexican war. From the
days of the Trujillos and Santa Marias (two of Topanga’s first homesteaders),
the Mexican culture has continued to be a major influence on the people
of this area. Its traditions of good food, family and togetherness have
been richly incorporated into the fabric of our community.
In
the 1920’s and 30’s, Topanga residents continued to live as a close knit
family. The daily work of raising homes and raising children was a team
effort. At night, the people sat around the dinner table, shared home
cooked meals and celebrated their lives together. Abuelitas Restaurant
was established to be that kind of gathering place.
“Abuelita”
means “Grandma” in Spanish and this restaurant will serve as a tribute
to all that represents. Our own Grandma Vasquez inspired our menu. She
taught us that a warm environment and food made with love could make anyone
feel at home. We want all those that enter Abuelitas to feel welcome and
consider our casa su casa.
At your service at Abuelitas!
